| Customer Reviews: Perfect - Love it December 26, 2009 Flapjak 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I got this for Christmas '09 so I've only had it for little over a day so far so I don't know how durable it is. I can, however, highly recommend this guitar due to its many other features. The sound is amazing and the 3-way 3 pickups let you explore lots of different sounds; a generally grittier sound on the low pickups and a more mellow tone on the upper ones. I tend to play a lot of rock, punk and ska and, having played for hours today it clearly caters to all. Not to mention that famous guitarists from all 3 genres use this guitars more expensive Gibson alternative. Having played an actual Gibson LP before I don't actually notice much of a difference in sound (bear in mind this may be because I'm not the best guitarist) so that's a major advantage of this guitar. It works well with or without overdrive so it's not confined to one area. For me, this is an upgrade from my old Yamaha Pacifica 012 which I have had for 3.5 years so it's a massive step up in terms of appearance (because this guitar is gorgeous) and sound. This transition also means that I've gone from a 25 inch to a 24.75 inch fretboard which, although small, makes bending the strings easier so I don't miss the whammy bar at all... yet. Definitely get a decent amp if you don't have one to get a full idea of this guitar's sound. Apparently Les Pauls go well with Marshall amps?
One of the main things to bear in mind is the condition of the default strings on the guitar. This may have just been me but I found them very harsh on my fingers, not to mention dirty, so I changed to some Super Light Gauge strings which are great. My LP also had a rattly bottom 'E' but this is easily fixed by adjusting the bridge. The Tuner for the 'D' string was also loose but, again, this is very easily fixed with a trusty screw driver. The guitar is also quite heavy but this doesn't bother me but I can see how it might bother some.
Overall, a great guitar so far. It seems durable so I'm expecting a good few years at least from this thing. I would highly recommend buying one if you want a decent guitar that's not too expensive. However, I've heard that the Epiphone LP custom is just as good as the Epiphone LP Custom BLack Beauty but just has 1 less pickup and is cheaper. It depends on whether or not you want that other pickup.
Excellent mid range guitar October 13, 2009 Mr. Steven Williamson 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I got this guitar last christmas and i have to say its great, i love it and its my favourite guitar now.
The guitar has a nice mahogony body that gives it a nice sound but makes it rather heavy (about 10lbs).
It was a three way pickup switch - bridge, middle + neck and the neck on its own. It has a very full clean sound on the neck and a fresh raw sound on the bridge and i nice medium on the middle swtich setting.
The action on it feels very nice not to high to make it hard to play and not too low to affect the sustain. It looks great as can be seen from the pictures but the pickups tend to loose their gold colou and end up more of a silvery/gold colour, but this still looks good i must admit.
The guitar is very durable also within two weeks of owning it my strap snapped and it hit the floor like a lead weight, it completely destryed the 12mm jak but the guitar is fine, a little scratched but overall no worse for wear.
Would definatly recommend as a guitar that is great but wont break your bank to buy it.
